Westfields suffered a 2-0 away defeat at Hereford Pegasus last night when the local rivals gained full revenge for an earlier 2-0 defeat they suffered at Westfields only a few weeks ago.

Westfields enjoyed long periods of play in the first half and Matt Gwynne in the Pegasus goal was able to field long shots from Josh Hunt, Dan Stoneman and Harry Pitman before Westfields forced 2 free-kicks before the interval where they should have done better when Matt MacDonald headed over the bar and Dan Stoneman shot wide as they looked to open the scoring before the break.

After the interval Hereford Pegasus came more into the game and Matt Apperley made 2 brilliant saves to keep out Pegasus’ efforts and then at the other end Matt Gwynne also saved brilliantly when he tipped over a rasping shot from Dan Stoneman.

With the game heading towards a 0-0 draw Pegasus snatched a 1-0 lead in the 81st minute in the unlikely moment when Dale Richards headed into his own goal past Matt Apperley.

Westfields then pushed forward in an effort to gain an equaliser but Hereford Pegasus made the points safe when substitute Sam Pearson scored a goal from close range after Matt Apperley had initially saved a goal-bound effort and Pearson was on hand to wrap up the points and make the game safe for the home side.

Westfields, who have now only taken one point from their last 3 games in the Hellenic League Premier Division, face a tough tie on Saturday when they play Worcester Raiders at allpay.park, kick-off 3pm, the game having been switched from Worcester Raiders again due to the Worcester Raiders Sixways ground being unavailable.

Next Tuesday Westfields are also at home again when they entertain Brimscombe & Thrupp, kick-off 7.45pm, at allpay.park.
