SHRIVENHAM DEVELOPMENT 3 LETCOMBE 4
Match report written by Des Williams (Letcombe FC)
Letcombe moved to the top of Division Two South with a narrow victory against a young and talented Shrivenham Development side. The hosts had strengthened their side slightly with the inclusion of first teamer Tyger Hall, and he proved to be their main threat.
Letcombe took the lead midway through the first half when Calum Pryce used his pace to race clear of the home defence, before passing the ball to Josh Fowler for a simple tap-in. Shrivenham continued to look dangerous in attack, and Tyger Hall equalised in the 40th minute with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Shrivenham took the lead early in the second half, Hall scoring his second with a low shot into the corner of the net from 20 yards. Letcombe were level within two minutes, Aaran Mudie heading home a free kick for his first goal of the season. The visitors took the lead again in the 73rd minute when Jack Daley powered a header from a corner against the crossbar, but the ball was only partially cleared, and James Webster headed home from the resulting cross. Letcombe appeared to have made the game safe ten minutes from time when Josh Fowler raced clear of a square defence, and although his initial shot was saved, he placed the rebound into the net. Shrivenham were not to be denied and reduced the arrears almost immediately when Charlie Sharland`s chipped shot found the far top corner. Shrivenham were awarded a free kick on the side line of the penalty area in added time, but the resulting kick went just wide of the far post. There was still time for Shrivenham captain Jack Hill to be sent off for a second late challenge, but Letcombe were relieved to hear the final whistle and secure three hard earned points. The Shrivenham lads deserve great credit for a spirited performance against a full strength Letcombe team.
