Faringdon Thursday Memorial Cup First Round

Monday 15th August

LETCOMBE 3 EAST HENDRED 2

Letcombe moved into the semi final of the Faringdon Thursday Memorial Cup with a narrow victory against fellow Hellenic League Division Two South team, Faringdon Town, but again they had to come from behind after early defensive errors.

The visitors took the lead after eight minutes following a free kick which the Letcombe defence failed to clear, allowing Jay Warren-Grace to score from close range at the far post. Worse was to follow ten minutes later when a Letcombe defender lost possession in his own penalty area, and Ryan Bradbury increased Faringdon`s lead via the upright. Calum Pryce reduced the arrears as half time approached, rounding the keeper before scoring.

Kieran Kerby hit the post for Letcombe early in the second half, but the hosts were not to be denied. Kerby was fouled in the area and Jordan Davies scored from the resulting penalty before James Webster was quickest to react to a loose ball and flicked it past the advancing keeper. Letcombe had chances to make the game safe but failed to take them, and Faringdon always looked dangerous on the break, especially from set pieces.

Letcombe can now look forward to their opening league fixture at home to Clanfield development, after an unbeaten pre season campaign.
