MISSED OPPORTUNITIES COST WESTFIELDS DEARLY

Westfields entertained high-flying Bradford Town on Saturday in an effort to claw back points to keep them in touch with the league leaders but Westfields missed the opportunity with a number of gilt-edged chances going awry in the second half which would have given them a comfortable victory and put them back in the mix for a promotion place.

However, Westfields gave a hard-working display from start to finish against a very strong Bradford Town side and the game ended in a draw and was decided by 2 penalties within 2 minutes of each other in the first half.

Westfields took the lead from the spot through goal-scorer Josh Hunt who converted the penalty after Dan Stoneman had been brought down in the penalty area.

However, 2 minutes later at the other end Paul Hurrell was guilty of a foul and Bradford Town skipper Ross Lye converted the kick to put the 2 sides level.

After the break Westfields stepped up the pressure on the visitors and both Harrison Summers and Dan Stoneman did very well on the flanks but were guilty of missing a couple of opportunities that came their way to put Westfields in front.

Westfields then brought on substitutes Keanu Cooper and Richard Greaves to try and get the winning goal and Cooper had a great opportunity when through on goal but his cross shot was cut out by the visitors’ defence and then Harrison Summers had a fine effort saved at the near post by the Bradford keeper.

Earlier in the half Jamie Bird had had a shot brilliantly saved by the Bradford keeper and also had ballooned a couple of efforts over the bar when well placed.

Both sides had to settle for a point but it was the Bradford side who were more pleased with the point than the Westfields home side.

Next week Westfields bring on league leaders Bishops Cleeve to allpay.park, kick-off 3pm, in a game where they will need to pick up a valuable win if they are to stay in the promotion race.
