Westfields win the Dennis Hartland Memorial Trophy

Westfields 3 Pegasus Juniors 0

Westfields retained the Dennis Hartland Memorial Trophy with a highly entertaining, hard fought match with visiting local rivals Pegasus Juniors last night.

The match, played at allpay.park, attracted a crowd of 185 people and was played at a good tempo throughout.

Westfields had an early scare when goalkeeper Matt Appleby and Joe Davies got into a tangle to allow Pegasus through but the shot hit the side netting.

However, Westfields, playing some good fast-flowing football, created opportunities and went ahead when Harrison Summers, the former Pegasus striker, put Westfields ahead when he beat the Pegasus keeper from close range.

Westfields were creating early opportunities with the speed of Aidan Thomas and Harrison Iddles and it came as no surprise when they went 2-0 ahead from the penalty spot when Sam Hunt converted the kick after a trip in the penalty area.

After the break, Westfields increased their lead early on with a thundering header from Joe Davies who brilliantly headed home a Sam Hunt corner.

Westfields then brought on Craig Jones and Paul Hurrell and these two again began to dominate the game but Westfields were thwarted by their former keeper Ian Havard who saved brilliantly on two occasions at the foot of the post to deny Aidan Thomas.

The game continued at a good pace as Westfields retained the trophy with a 3-0 victory.

The trophy was presented to the captain of Westfields, Sam Rawlings, by the widow of the late Dennis Hartland, Mrs Jacqui Hartland.
