The season so far, by Des Williams

As Letcombe F C move into the New Year, they can reflect on an amazingly successful season to date. The club are still in contention in five competitions, and having played 18 competitive matches, they have won 17 and drawn 1.

The season started with two narrow victories against East Hendred and Faringdon Town in the first two rounds of the Faringdon Memorial Cup, having to come from behind on both occasions. Letcombe now play Saxton Rovers in the semi final in April.

The first league match against Clanfield development saw Letcombe miss a penalty and the game ended in a goalless draw, the only match that the club have failed to win. The following seven league games were all won, scoring 49 goals and conceding just 6, leaving the club second in Division Two South just two points behind Swindon Supermarine development with two games in hand.

Letcombe are still in three other cup competitions. They have beaten Division One teams Abingdon United and Stonehouse Town in the Hellenic Challenge Cup, and now face Long Crendon in the third round. In the Chairmans cup for Division Two teams, Letcombe will play unbeaten Newbury after victories against Didcot Town development and Shortwood reserves. In the Berks & Bucks cup, Letcombe will now play Mortimer in the third round after victories against Didcot Town Youth and Wargrave.

In 18 competitive matches, the club have scoed 96 goals and conceded 17. Jordan Davies has scored 27 and Josh Fowler 18 despite missing a number of games with a shoulder injury, while Callum Pryce has added another 13. The club still have 14 league matches to play, and face a congested fixture list in the remaining months of the season, but they can enter the new year with optimism.
