Former Club President Don Want passed away on Sunday 24th April aged 89. He had not been well for some considerable time. Don and his wife Madeleine arrived in the village from Norwich via Romford in 1964, and they soon both became immersed in village life. Madeleine in varied cultural ways including music and drama. Don immediately became a valued member of the Football Club, which in those days was playing on The Common just a few yards from his home for the next 58 years in Sheepcote Dell Road. Over the years he held virtually every position on the Football Club Committee, and always supported them in a generous way financially. He was also the HGSA Groundsman for many years, not taking any payment for his services, after selling his highly successful local Insurance Broking concern. He was also a fine servant and friend of Holmer Green Cricket Club over most of the past 50 plus years.
As well as Madeleine he also leaves grown up sons in Steve and Simon, who have both done so much for their parents over the last difficult few years.
