The weather definitely took its toll on the League fixtures last weekend and during this week. We can only hope for improvement at the weekend and for warmer/dryer times to come!
In the UHL Premier Division on Saturday, we had 5 games played and 4 games postponed.
3 teams hit 5 goals, with Pershore Town winning 5-0 away to Malmesbury Victoria, Sporting club Inkberrow drawing 1-1 with Royal Wootton Bassett Town and Worcester Raiders winning 5-0 at home to Thornbury Town. In the 1st v 2nd place game, Mangotsfield United and Hartpury University played out a 1-1 draw with Mangotfield United equalizing in the 93rd minute. In the remaining game, Hereford Pegasus won 2-0 at home to Fairford Town.
The mid-week games produced some notable results with Mangotsfield United in 2nd place winning 3-0 at home v Roman Glass St George in 4th place in front of a healthy crowd of 314 braving the very cold Bristol night. Fairford Town and Cirencester Town drew 2-2 in their local derby with Cirencester Town scoring what they must have thought to be the winning goal in the 90th minute, only for Fairford Town to score the equalizer in the 94th minute. (I hope no-one left the ground early!!) Sporting Club Inkberrow travelled to Worcester Raiders and won 4-1 to leapfrog Roman Glass St George into 3rd place. In the other game Thornbury Town put 3 goals past 2nd bottom Brimscombe & Thrupp.
We have two really big games in the Izuzu FA Vase Fourth Round this coming weekend. On Saturday Roman Glass St George host Andover New Street who ply their trade in the Velocity Wessex Premier League. I note that Andover New Street (who currently occupy 4th place) have not played since the 28th December so hopefully some rusty legs will not be able to match Roman Glass St George who have been pretty active over the Christmas and New Year period. On Sunday Hartpury University host Fareham Town, who also play in the Velocity Wessex Premier League. (currently occupying 5th place) Fareham Town have also not played since the 28th December and with Hartpury University playing on the 4th January, again, hopefully their match fitness will prevail. All the best of luck and keep the UHL flag flying.
In Division One on Saturday, we only had one game played out of 9 scheduled and that ended in an emphatic 8-1 home win for Wantage Town against Southam United.
In mid-week, leaders Droitwich Spa won 1-0 at home to 4th placed FC Stratford to maintain their healthy lead at the top with games in hand on most others around them. Chipping Sodbury Town continued their climb up the table with a 5-1 away win v their near neighbours Tytherington Rocks.
In Division 2, we only had one game survive on Saturday in the Central Division with Wantage Town Reserves winning 1-0 away to Woodstock Town ACE. In mid-week, Kidlington Dev won 4-0 away to Carterton Dev.
We also had some Vets games that took place to get the Vets up and running again in mid-week.
Thanks to Brian and Angela K who were extra busy liaising with clubs last Saturday during the big Freeze!! (Might be a busy morning tomorrow also!!)
