Today marks a significant milestone in the career of David Evans, who officiated his 100th uhlsport Hellenic League fixture in the match between Carterton and Shortwood United. Since joining the league in 2018, David has been a model of dedication, professionalism, and passion for the game.
Starting as a Level 5 referee, David pursued promotion with focus and determination. His first match, Langley vs. Thatcham Dev on the 18th of August, 2018, was the beginning of a distinguished career. David achieved Level 4 status during the challenging COVID-19 season, demonstrating his resilience and commitment. Across 100 matches, he has issued around 400 cards, maintaining fairness and control on the pitch, and has been trusted with officiating numerous high-profile fixtures.
David’s work ethic off the field is equally impressive. He trains rigorously to ensure his fitness aligns with the demands of officiating, covering an average of 9-10 kilometers per game. His dedication to understanding and applying the Laws of the Game is exemplary, with David always striving to stay at the forefront of rule changes.
Beyond his own performance, David is a true team player. He regularly offers guidance to fellow Level 4 referees on the Hellenic League, taking calls to provide support and advice when needed. He is also committed to the development of future referees, giving his time to mentor and coach new officials for the Oxfordshire FA.
A spokesperson from the uhlsport Hellenic League said: “David is an inspiration to all young referees. His dedication week in, week out, come rain or shine, is remarkable. He is a valued member of the referees assigned to the Hellenic, and I hope that he enjoys his 100th game today and that the match runs smooth.”
As we celebrate this milestone, we extend our heartfelt thanks to David for his immense contributions to football and wish him continued success as a trusted and respected referee. Congratulations, David, on your 100th match!
